Corals are endangered and we have to do all we can to protect them (“Fears of Thompson’s tidal pool draining”- February 2).
Half of the world’s coral is already dead! It is utterly inappropriate to even consider destroying more marine life, knowing they are slowly becoming scarce. The drainage of the pool should not be approved as it is willingly killing a life form.
With all the pollution going on in the ocean, people should be considerate about the corals. If the pool is drained the fish and crustaceans may survive but the beautiful coral, which makes the place home, will die. Would you be able to live with yourself if you killed this immaculate creation?
I do however, understand that the infrastructure needs to be repaired and trust that the department of environmental affairs will make an appropriate decision.
The tidal pool is a place where many families and friends meet to make memories that will last a lifetime. Without the coral nothing will ever be the same. Based on the previous loss at Salt Rock’s tidal pool, it is unlikely that the tidal pool will go back to the way it is currently if it is drained. Do you really want to kill the corals?
I do urge you all to be considerate and fight against the drainage of the pool, for the sake of the corals!
