Letter: N2 repairs delayed again!

After reading about the roadwork on N2 repairs being delayed again, I was completely put off, irritated and frustrated! It seems Mr. Mahomed has little or no personal experience with the traffic in the morning, and has never sought the viewpoint of one who does (Materials not substandard, say N2 suppliers, February 9).

The roadworks started in February 2016 and were supposed to end in February 2017. The same old excuse has been offered for why SANRAL has now pushed back the completion date to the later part of 2018. Do you really expect us to believe that again?

I am a student who travels to school every day using this route and my driver is rather claustrophobic; so he must drive slowly along that lane, the only lane. He also has to put up with rude people who shout at him from behind, putting excessive pressure on him. If there were two lanes he would stick to his slow lane, troubling no one at all. The trucks are also slow and cause congestion on the road.

People are also prone to arriving late at work or school.

We were obviously aware of delays and decided to wake up an hour earlier for a year until the roads were fixed. We never see a person working on that road; instead we see bushes, weeds and flowers growing. The pace at which this is going is ridiculous! Several KwaDukuza residents, including me, are sick and tired of waking up an hour earlier to avoid traffic and having to wait for another hour at school doing absolutely nothing.

I understand that your contractor is unable to obtain suitable quality pavement material, but I don’t understand why it’s taking you three and a half whole years (which of course from the looks of things could increase to four years). If money isn’t the problem, then what is? May I just ask where our tax money is going to exactly?

I really do hope you won’t disappoint us this year-round Mr Mahomed.
