Letter: Thoroughly disgusted

I am thoroughly disgusted with the lack of discretion.

I have been reading your paper for the last 20 years and have enjoyed the local news, successfully used the classifieds and have seen my own children represented in your paper for school achievements and at local events.

Obviously, this is meant to be a family/ community newspaper and many children look at it every week, if only to see other kids they know, represented in your paper.

I have to say I was shocked when my 11-year-old son brought the Courier to me and showed me a photo on page 4 under the article “The Hard Facts About Massage Parlours” where two very minimally clothed women are together in a pornographic position.

He asked me, ‘What is that?”

I was completely taken aback as I would have never expected an editor of this newspaper to take a decision to include such a photograph.

I do my best to share information at age appropriate times with my children as I am not under the delusion that they won’t be exposed to such things, however, I NEVER expected it to come from our local paper.

I am thoroughly disgusted with the lack of discretion. I do hope that this will not happen again.
