Open letter to the Municipal Manager – KwaDukuza
I have been informed by one of your employees in the electrical department that you have made a ruling that no one will get paid for any overtime over the allotted 40 hours.
What happens, as it did this weekend, when everyone had worked their allotted 40 hours and now there is a repair to be done? Hundreds of residents sitting without electricity since Saturday night!
Surely some exception could be made. Could there not be a rule that if they have worked more than their allotted 40 hours overtime, they could take the extra time off?
My husband was an electrician on the mines in the 1970s and they were also allotted only 40 hours overtime a month but if there were emergencies that they had to attend they took those extra hours they had to work off.
You can’t just let residents sit without power because your electricians have worked their allotted overtime!
