In response to Mr. Markus Kämpf’s letter (‘Are foreigners not welcome?’ March 2) in which he describes the difficulty, over a number of years, his wife has been experiencing in obtaining SA citizenship, in spite of the fact that their adult children, presumably born in SA, have their SA citizenship.
Mrs Kämpf was born in Switzerland and bureaucratic trivialities are seemingly constant obstacles.
May I suggest that, with the return of Malusi Gigaba to head the Department of Home Affairs, that Mrs. Kämpf change her name to Gupta.
The name is apparently familiar to Gigaba and he might even extend his generosity by facilitating a welcoming party at Airforce Base Waterkloof should one of the Kämpf offspring decide to have a wedding in this country.
