Letter: Speech was stirring stuff

The speech, like an Oscar-winning movie, just had everything befitting par excellence.

Cllr Vernon Pillay of KwaDukuza writes:

The Democratic Alliance (DA) hosted approximately 1850 delegates at its Federal Congress 2018 weekend recently at the Tshwane Convention Centre in Pretoria.

We, the DA Ilembe Constituency, were there to witness the watershed moment.

The Federal leader, Mmusi Maimane fielded oratory that was soul stirring, finding traction on the basic issues that affect all South Africans through universality of service delivery, security and Ubuntu to name a few.

The speech, like an Oscar-winning movie, just had everything befitting par excellence; like in a Beethoven composition hitting the right notes, cutting through the mundane clichés and stringing together genuine quotes from the likes of Chinua Achebe and Dr Martin Luther King Junior – leaving one with chills. Lucky eNCA was there to capture Maimane in his element while he delivered, in my view, one of his greatest speeches.

A veritable laissez-faire ensemble of art, purpose, vindication, integrity and cult of personality (like Kennedy, Dr King). . . Presidential platitudes. Even pyro and confetti concluded that presidential moment.
