Ian Chart of Salt Rock writes: Last year I published a letter in the Courier regarding the free music festival at the Salt Rock Beach and highlighting the problem with the unruly crowds.
The concert was of major concern, the authorities were unable to control the unruly, undisciplined, and inconsiderate crowd hell bent on causing as much disturbance and irritation to residents and holiday makers as possible.
The concert was supposed to stop at 23h00 and the area cleared before 24h00.
The screaming, shouting, hooting and revving of motor car engines went on into the early hours of morning with total disregard to any law and order, not to mention the filth and litter left behind.
The unruly behaviour is getting worse year on year.
Due to the terrain and the nature of the residential area it is impossible for law enforcement to move in and control the unruly crowds and render assistance.
This fact alone should be a red light to the organisers and authorities that this is a disaster in the making.
Due to the civil unrest that the country is experiencing at present I am hereby warning the organisers and the KwaDukuza Municipality if they go ahead with the concert on the Salt Rock Beach they are looking for trouble and must bear the full responsibility of their actions.
I would suggest that that the concert is moved out of town to an area that will be more conducive to such an event eg. Sugar Rush or an open piece of ground that is more conducive to controlling the crowds.
