Letter: Dirty hall is a disgrace to Stanger

I volunteered to help a friend give lunch at the R A Moodley Hall in Stanger on May 20.

Before we could go in to prepare the kitchen at about 10.30am the church people inside the hall still had all the outside lights on.

We had to look around trying to find the light switches to switch them off.

Then we noticed just how dirty the outside area was, polystyrene cups and used paper plates thrown all over and the only two small dirt bins were beyond full.

The men’s toilets don’t work and while the female toilets work, there are leaking taps and a door barely holding on.

We had to buy two brooms and a scoop to have it cleaned up as both the inside and the outside were beyond dirty.

The big windows of the hall have not been cleaned for years.

There is no facility for recycling for the paper plates and polystyrene cups. The kitchen sink was dirty and blocked.

With Stanger having a court house, I’m sure there are many people serving community sentences who could help clean up and beautify the R A Moodley community hall.

Not once was there a caretaker or security guard around. We were told there’s just one man from the senior citizens who comes to clean up but only on senior citizens’ days – Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. So, who cleans up the hall after other functions?

With ANC spending money on changing names from Stanger to KwaDukuza and other name changes, I’m sure the mayor can spend money on improving this hall.
