Khanya Rajuili of Ballito writes: During the first few days in February, as I was trying to chase the sunrise at 5.30am along the beach, not only the sun’s rays welcomed me but the faces of the security (Fikani and others) and maintenance teams who work for UIP.
Each of them was steadily taking steps from one end of the promenade to the other, either on guard or on duty with hand-held shears. I looked at the shears and remembered my childhood days trying to prune the peach trees in my grandmothers’ orchard.
Such blades are still on the market!
I giggled with appreciation because the edges are cut with such precision while the weeds are plucked out by hand and put into the recycling plastic bags.
Over the past four months I have been grateful for the security team who offer a 24-hour service for the comfort of Ballito residents and holidaymakers.
The environmental maintenance group work schedule begins at 5am. No wonder I have never been there before them.
The sun rises now around 6.40, an hour during which they (Silindile on foto) would have pruned the green edges meticulously while humming a tune, bending down as if she is in her own world.
I cannot but express my words of appreciation to all the day and evening staff from UIP for the services they are rendering for each and all of us.
A service that takes so much manual labour including picking up the poo of pet owners who will not comply.
I salute each of you. Indeed, cleanliness is about giving service and joy to others, I am one of those!
