Ward 6 Cllr Tammy Colley writes: The number of non-functioning streetlights has become a bone of contention in Ballito and the surrounding areas.
Having tried working through the correct reporting channels for many months with no success, a public meeting was called on April 23 to address this issue.
The community expressed their frustrations to the electrical department and were reassured that there was a plan in place to appoint a contractor to assist with the huge number of nonfunctional streetlights throughout the municipality.
Sadly, to date, 10 weeks after that meeting took place, only lights around the Ballito Pro event area appear to have been attended to.
Many whole streets remain in darkness.
Residents are concerned for their safety, but their worries fall on deaf ears. This needs to be addressed.
The concerns of residents must not be ignored.
The relevant officials within KDM must ensure that there is budget available for all the streetlights to be repaired, and that they are finally switched on and remain functional
