I have noticed that there seems to be silence regarding the prolonged completion of the Umhlali River bridge re-alignment project.
This project commenced way back in April 2016 and was scheduled for completion in April 2017.
I have been led to believe that on the one hand, inferior quality materials were supplied and on the other, the contractor got liquidated. Just what is going on? We have a right to know. While everybody is pushing the blame on one another, commuters have to bear the brunt.
This section of the road has become a death trap, lives have already been lost. Drivers unfamiliar with the sudden narrowing of the road into a single lane find this difficult to negotiate.
I am a daily user of this road and can’t help notice the near accidents.
While commuters have to put up with these hazardous conditions, SANRAL is collecting the full toll tariff. It’s time authorities and responsible officials be held accountable.
