Markus Kämpf of Simbithi Estate writes:
The Covid-19 cases in South Africa have really soared, which allows us to come to some obvious conclusions:
For one, it shows that the tobacco and alcohol bans haven’t been of much use – at least not as far as the virus is concerned. Apart from the occasional setback when a rare bust is made, smugglers and black-market traders will understandably disagree.
Secondly, it explains why no other country in the world has followed South Africa’s lead. And why should they?
They would only be further damaging their already battered economies and be creating additional job losses, all for no good reason.
Although this may not be in line with ANC logic, but isn’t it time to take measures to prevent South Africans from starving and committing suicide due to their livelihoods having been destroyed?
A first quick and simple step would be to lift these nonsensical bans.
Hundreds of thousands of jobs would basically be recreated overnight. Such a move may even allow the ANC to start paying salaries again.
So far, the only positive thing about 2020 is that nobody has the flu. As always though, if you doubt and question the official explanation for this odd phenomenon, you will be dubbed a conspiracy theorist and spreader of fake news.
I suppose the only thing really left to do, is to hope that George Orwell will become fiction again.
