Tony Singh of Shakaskraal writes:
Regarding streetlights. I phoned the department on 06/08/2020 and again on 07/08/2020 with no joy.
I had to go to the Stanger control room on 08/08/2020 and only then they came.
Calling the control room results in an answering machine every day with no reference or response and the complaint just gets sent to Ballito faults.
The control room should be brought back to Ballito.
There are a few technicians that work faithfully and the rest don’t care, after seven at night no one works.
The management is poor too, when you report to the Municipal Manager he only makes notes and does nothing.
Even when the tech asks him to order material, it is never ordered.
Although the money was allocated, the streetlights on Protea Heights Road in Shakaskraal haven’t had lights for four years.
Where is the service delivery? I can take the matter to national government if nothing is done.
KwaDukuza municipality spokesperson Sipho Mkhize responds:
This is the first time I have come learn of such a case from the Shakaskraal area. I will be liaising with the local councillor to ascertain the extent of the issue.
I will also be escalating this to the ED for Electrical Engineering Services Business Unit.
With regards to the call centre, I will also be talking to the supervisor concerned.
May I ask your readers to use this number for WhatsApp: 060 9003 908 as an alternative to contacting the call centre.
