Letter: Cable theft pandemic

"It is a genuine pandemic which along with load shedding (which plays right into the perpetrators' hands) has a long lasting and massive effect on a gated community or estate, and entire areas, of which there are many here" - Tavia Boertje.

Tavia Boertje of Brettenwood writes:

Having recently moved here from Centurion West in May and having suffered sometimes weekly from the theft of above ground cables, I strongly urge the Courier to keep an eye on this story.

Our Tshwane (DA run) municipality stopped telling us the truth and lied to us time and time again.

It is a genuine pandemic which along with load shedding (which plays right into the perpetrators’ hands) has a long lasting and massive effect on a gated community or estate, and entire areas, of which there are many here.

We asked them to bury the cables in cement but they had every reason under the sun not to.

We tried so many angles, but each was met with more lame excuses.

With the level of desperation out there, these gangs flourish.

They work hand-in-hand with corrupt police, government officials and Eskom engineers.
