Ballito resident Dhaya Naidu writes:
From Friday the 30 October, the house next door was rented out to some uncouth people who have no regard for Ballito by laws or human decency.
As soon as they came they blared their music with a horribly loud base that echoed through our house and vibrated the windows.
This also upset our dogs. Initially there were 10 people, but as the night progressed several more joined and by Saturday, there was a crowd.
Women screamed, men shouted in vulgar slang and the ear-splitting noise continued until 2am in the morning of Saturday and Sunday.
During the day was no better.
I felt like I was living in the centre of Phoenix or Chatsworth.
I do not understand why people are not made aware of Ballito by-laws, why tenants were not screened, why an upmarket area is made to look like trash and why the people who rented it out did not check occupancy?
I called the police in Umhlali, but their one van was broken down.
The security company sent someone twice, but they started with the noise as soon as they left.
I hope that this type of incident is not repeated.

Umhlali SAPS spokesperson Vinny Pillay responds: My station commander stated that we had more than one van on that day. However, we will be contacting the complainant and investigate.
