Karenne Bloomgarden of Ballito writes:
The future of our children in this country relies on their access to education.
Any entity/organization that compromises/impedes this process must be challenged.
Over the last 12 years I have been involved with training teachers in public schools in 4 different provinces, supporting principals in KZN, bringing volunteers from Germany to assist with school projects, setting up school libraries, vegetable gardens and ongoing support for teachers, principals and students.
Since last year, 3 principals who truly care about their students have been pressured to leave; threatened; lied about because organizations like SADTU want their “own people” in those positions.
Fear has been instilled in educators, preventing open communication. I cannot support an organization that encourages teachers to ignore administrators, to hold union meetings during school time, to use community members to provide negative pressure towards school staff.
Community members need to assist school staff instead of blocking school entrances, inciting fear in our children, the community needs to prevent “the bullies” from controlling our schools. ANC represents the people, SADTU represents the teachers.
Who represents our children?
