Chairman, Docrra, Deon Viljoen writes:
I refer to your article on the reappointment of Nhlanhla Mdakane as KwaDukuza’s municipal manager for a third five-year term.
One thing I have learnt as a businessman is when there is manipulation of processes, policies and procedures, as well as the dissemination of misinformation and non-responsiveness to enquiries, there is something to hide.
This instance is yet another example of this.
Could this be as a result of the faction battles within the ANC, or is it the protection of interests?
Perhaps it could be the fear of a strengthening opposition, or the unprecedented pressure from civil society structures? Probably a bit of all of the above.
If we think fraud and corruption are our biggest scourge, think of the effects of poor performance and selective consequence management for a whole municipality.
We know our opposition councillors will continue their probes on this issue, and Docrra, with our various oversight and legal partners, will continue and intensify our civic duties and insist on our civic rights which are entrenched in law.
Game on, despite it being the proverbial five-day game.
