Linda Lazenby of Chaka’s Rock writes:
As owner of a holiday property at Chaka’s Rock for nearly 25 years, it breaks my heart to see the current state of the Chaka’s Rock and Salt Rock beaches.
I am an environmentalist at heart and have always tried to do my bit to keep our planet neat and tidy, but to walk this stretch of beach is soul destroying.
It is disgusting and poses a health risk.

There used to be a large blue dustbin on the beach at the base of the wooden stairs near one of the walkways between Crayfish and Catfish, which is no longer there.
Local church members used to give up their Sunday mornings to walk this stretch of beach to pick up the litter.
I am overwhelmed by the amount of litter, plastic, masks, paper packets, broken chairs and even a concrete birdbath that pollute this beach.
Add to that glass bottles, cigarette boxes and butts, beer cans and plastic bottles. Dog faeces is another problem – it smells and attracts flies.
The grassed seating area at Salt Rock beach used for braaiing and parties is a disgrace. A suggestion would be to erect more municipal dustbins in the hope that they will be used.
I understand the recent flooding has made the situation worse but something needs to be done urgently as all this litter will just be washed back into the sea.
We need to return this stretch of beach to its original pristine condition.
We have a beautiful country which we are slowly destroying.
