#Letter: KDRF seeks transparency on motion of no confidence

The KwaDukuza Residents Forum is adament that opposition councillors in the KDM council should stand together.

KwaDukuza Residents Forum secretary Riaan Verster writes:

A motion of no confidence has been tabled by Action SA to serve before the KDM Council on Thursday.

Should every opposition councillor in the KDM council stand together and support this motion, it will succeed and remove the ANC from control of the municipality.

Once the ANC’s control over the council has been removed, it will allow for the opposition to form a coalition to govern KDM or, failing this, the province will assign an administrator until a new election can be held in the municipality.

The KDRF has made it clear that it has numerous material concerns and misgivings around how the ANC has governed in KwaDukuza for the many years it has been in power.

We believe that this motion stands to be supported by all parties and councillors who represented themselves as “in opposition to the ANC” – any party or councillor not voting in favour of this motion is very basically and demonstratively in full favour and support of the ANC. We do not believe there is any other way to interpret this.

We have been in the process of engaging the opposition parties, including the ACDP, Action SA, the DA, the IFP and are reaching out to the remaining opposition parties early in the coming week.

We believe the voters who supported each of these parties deserve to know how their elected representatives will be voting on Thursday. Will they be voting to keep the ANC in power or to remove them from council.

This week will determine whether your vote and mandate is and will be respected and should put you in a good position to know how to vote in the next election.
