Gina Boxley of Ballito writes:
What is happening to our Ballito town? The ongoing crime is totally unacceptable.
We have many unoccupied holiday homes, and when visitors do arrive you can be sure their homes will be broken into because they are being watched.
We pay huge amounts of money for our security and police are not patrolling as they should.
Criminals have no fear and even when they are arrested, they are out in a day and back on the streets.
The drugs being sold around the clubs is blatant, so why are the police not shutting this down?
We live in fear and yet we still have to pay our taxes.
And then there are the power outages and raw sewage (around Durban) running into our beautiful sea. We are not getting first class service.
Water pipes are bursting every day, streets are full of potholes and the only service that seems to be working is that the gardens are being looked after and the garbage is mostly collected on time.
Who will take responsibility to address all our problems?
The only solution we can see is to privatise everything and pay for services that work. But do we then stop paying our rates and taxes?
Get on with making this country world class and stop the bickering and blaming. Let us move forward. We can’t change what’s happened but we can make a difference to the present and the future.
We all want a country in which to live in peace, but every citizen is responsible for making that happen.
We must make it work for everyone, not just the few who are corrupt and are stealing our hard-earned salaries.
