#Letter: Sad loss of iconic landmark

"Four hours after this photo was taken there was nothing left but a levelled site" - Vaughan McDonnell.

Vaughan McDonnell of Salt Rock writes:

A part of local history is now lost forever.

This iconic landmark, the Fairbreeze Hotel, was in Tongaat/Maidstone when I first came down to live in the area in 1974.

Alas, the hotel was gutted and set alight during the riots of July 2021.

Four hours after this photo was taken there was nothing left but a levelled site.
