#Letter: Committee meeting delay regrettable

"While the passing of the Chairperson, Cllr TV Ntuli, leaves a tangible void, the rules of council allow for the nomination of a pro-tem chairperson" - Democratic Alliance caucus whip, Privi Makhan.

Democratic Alliance caucus whip, Privi Makhan, writes:

The DA in KwaDukuza notes with deep concern the indefinite rescheduling of the Infrastructure and Technical Portfolio Committee sitting.

While the passing of the Chairperson, Cllr TV Ntuli, leaves a tangible void, the rules of council allow for the nomination of a pro-tem chairperson.

With only 40% of the 2022/23 capital budget having been spent to date, we must point out the importance of this key service delivery committee getting underway in order for councillors to oversee critical infrastructure projects.

We have written to the office of the speaker and the municipal manager to compel the relevant office to provide an alternate date.

The business of committees can no longer be hampered and the people of KwaDukuza simply cannot be left behind.
