#Letter: Gratitude for act of kindness

"Derick came over with two burger boxes full of pasta I assume his wife had made for dinner, so we didn't have to spend the night hungry" - Mike Young.

Mike Young of Johannesburg:

I would like to bring a real act of kindness to your and your readers’ attention.

A friend and I travelling the country to market a cleaning product developed car problems.

After the car was repaired we ended up in Umdloti but owing to the lateness of the day we had no money and looked for a safe place to park for the night. We didn’t even have money to do the usual and park in a caravan park.

We stopped at the Total garage under the Bush Tavern. As we reversed we were met by a gentleman watching closely as we parked on what turned out to be his grass patch.

After a casual chat we discovered he actually owned the business site and would normally not allow parking there as his grass was pretty well looked after.

About an hour after parking I was sitting in the front and the gentleman, Derick, came over with two burger boxes full of pasta I assume his wife had made for dinner, so we didn’t have to spend the night hungry.

In the morning we went to thank him and he bought a few packs of the cleaning product so we had money for the day.

What an absolute gentleman, and I really hope this will find a place in your newspaper to in some way acknowledge his fantastic attitude.
