#Letter: Suggestions for improved road safety

"There is an urgent need for proper lane markings as motorists drift into each other's way when turning right" - Glen Harrisunker.

Ballito resident Glen Harrisunker writes:

I do not know my local councillor, so I hope this urgent request will reach him or her through your newspaper.

At the Ballito N2 off-ramp (northbound) traffic lights, one can turn left to Compensation and right to Ballito.

There is an urgent need for proper lane markings as motorists drift into each other’s way when turning right.

The absence of road markings cause drivers in the right lane to move into the centre lane when entering Ballito Drive. The result is that near-collisions are plentiful.

The extreme left lane on the bridge is for vehicles going to Durban.

My second concern is at the Alberlito-Ashton school traffic light. With the recent road widening there creating two lanes, there are no road signs indicating the road narrows ahead. I have seen drivers racing to get onto the right lane when they realise that the road suddenly narrows.

I raise these points for the sake of improved road safety.
