BG Liversage of Darnall writes:
We have had a continuous stream of treated tap water running through our property since April last year immediately after the KZN floods.
This has been reported to the iLembe District Municipality about 39 times, either by phone or on their WhatsApp number.
We know it is treated water because every time Darnall has no water – our “river” stops flowing in direct sympathy with the town’s tap water.
We have received SMS reports of “fault repaired or resolved” 11 times but the water continues to flow through the yard. Dates and numbers are available.
The only conclusion one comes to is that either iLembe staff are not capable of fixing the problem, or are not interested in fixing it.
By now many millions of litres of treated tap water have been wasted at great cost to the municipality and ratepayers. Think of it – a continuous flow of water 24/7 for 14 months.
Our soil is irrigated close to liquefaction point. In April our Easter visitors’ vehicle got stuck on level lawn and we had to phone a friend with a 4×4 vehicle to tow them out of the mud.
On April 29 the situation was again reported on WhatsApp and ticket number #7471 issued. The next day at 8.42am they reported that “the technician has resolved the issue” via SMS.
Nothing has changed, however, the water continues to flow.
When will the iLembe District Municipality repair this mainline water leak, if ever?
(This letter was forwarded to the iLembe District Municipality for comment, but no response has been received at the time of print – Ed).
