#Letter: Tongaat resident speaks out after disturbing vervet cruelty incidents

Charles Munsamy writes the cruelty towards monkeys is becoming increasingly common.

Tongaat resident Charles Munsamy writes:

This distressing sight (see photo) has been present at my home in Tongaat, over the past several days. Fortunately, the baby vervet survived without medical intervention and was able to recover from its infections.

A similar incident, involving a vervet with a head injury, caused its head to swell to three times its size. Sadly, it succumbed to its injuries two weeks ago. I witnessed the animal shivering continuously in the 35°C heat, clinging to its mother as it took its last breath.

These are the atrocities inflicted by humans on helpless animals. Having exhausted cruelty towards fellow human beings, some now turn their actions towards defenceless animals.

It is my hope that this serves as a reminder for those responsible to desist from harming innocent animals.
