Umhlali chess stars head for Bloem

Pupils to represent the province at the national championships in December.

The Umhlali Preparatory School chess team is headed for Bloemfontein.
The team beat Dianthus Primary School to win the KZN schools chess championships at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in October.
They will now represent the province at the national championships in December.
Captain Demmer Brown said the championships were exciting.
“We beat our main competition so we were very shocked but proud of ourselves.”
Chess coach Veshanti Murugan thanked Spha Nkosi for his coaching, Mrs Morgue for her role as manager and co-ordinator, the parents for their support and pupils for their commitment, dedication and enthusiasm.
