Local Ballito soccer players were recently awarded their Brazilian Soccer Schools (BSS) International Skills Badge Scheme certificates.
Jonathen Dayani from Ashton International College and Rocco Rocha from Eco Kidz Simbithi became the youngest players in KZN to receive a Level 1 certificate for “floor to air moves”, “moves to beat other players” and the “turning module”. What made this accomplishment unique is that they are both only five years old. Jonathen, who like Brazilian soccer legends Pele and Kaka, has been given a nickname (“JJ”) said, “I practice my Brazilian moves every day, I love BSS!”.
Kayden Robinson (9) from Crawford College North Coast was awarded the BSS KZN player of the year. He stood out above the rest in the three areas assessed, namely discipline, skill and fitness. Kayden received his Level 3 certificate for various modules and also achieved the highest score in KZN for “juggling” and “associated juggling”.
Other stand-outs were David Xenopoulos who took the junior player award and Angelo Sonitis, who walked away with the honours for the seniors. Special mention for the girls went to Nqobi Gumede (nine) from Sizani school as well as Daniella Dayani (12), the latter representing the KZN U/14 team this year.
The local BSS coaching staff looked back on a successful year in which their team finished undefeated in winning the Toti Cup and drawing 1-1 with the Supersport United U/13 premier academy. “We have achieved a lot this year, but we are particularly excited about 2014. BSS KZN players can look forward to new venues, a trip to Brazil and exposure through Supersport’s Let’s Play initiative. From next year BSS will be coaching children at Ashton College, Crawford North Coast and Curro Mount Richmore,” said coach Peter Hooper.
BSS has a holiday program that will run on December 9-12 and 17-20 at Ashton College from 8-11am. For more information go to Facebook: Brazilian Soccer Schools North Coast KZN, visit the website www.braziliansoccerschoolssa.com or SMS 083 604 0435.
