International football tournament trials to kick off soon
Do you dream of the limelight on the football field?
Scouts will visit Ilembe district on February 10 and 11 at KwaDukuza Recreation Grounds in search of talent for an international U19 football tournament to be held mid year.
The KZN provincial government, Ethekwini municipality and IEC in sports in partnership with the South African Football Association (SAFA) will host the tournament from from July 28 to August 9 at Moses Madiba.
The technical team led by renowned soccer scout, Paulo Cardoso, assisted by local coaches will travel across the province searching for players to represent KZN in this world class tournament.
The team will compete against six top international clubs.
Players who are eligible to participate in the trials are males between the age groups of 15 and 18-years-old.
They need to preregister by sending their identity document (ID) numbers followed by their name and surname to 48421 and the area they come from.
On the day of the trial, potential candidates should bring their IDs as proof.
Ethekwini spokesperson, Thabo Mofokeng said age cheating was discouraged and a zero tolerance approach will been adopted against this practice.
“Over the coming weeks 16 open trials will take place across the province. An estimated 18 000 players will be evaluated and out of that number only 140 will be selected to attend a two week intensive training camp in March/April. After the two weeks training the final squad consisting of 25 players will be selected,” said Mofokeng.
