Pro golfing on the North Coast

Local courses to host the World Club ProAm.

Three North Coast golf courses have been selected to host the prestigious inaugural World Club ProAm in less than a month’s time.
Ninety holes of championship golf will be played at five courses around KwaZulu-Natal, including Zimbali Country Club, Umhlali Country Club and Prince’s Grant Golf Estate.
The other two courses are Durban Country Club and Cotswold Downs Golf Course.
South Africa’s PGA chief executive officer Ivan Ficalbi said the courses have been selected based on their ability to provide the tournament with a world-class PGA golfing experience.
“This is made up of breath-taking coastal scenery, magnificent topography and the province’s natural flora and fauna and wildlife. We are confident that each golfer will relish the unforgettable golfing experience over the five days of play in KZN.”
Zimbali Golf Club general manager Steven Shearer is confident.
“Our world-class Tom Weiskopf designed golf course along with our eco-forest estate will provide the World Club ProAm tournament with a true test of golf all round.”
Umhlali Country Club marketing manager Lauren Abdo is also pleased.
“With the tournament around the corner, our 18-hole Peter Matkovich designed course is in peak condition following the summer rains, which makes us confident that Umhlali will offer a memorable golfing experience for this prestigious inaugural event.”
The World Club ProAm takes place from February 15 to February 22 and will see golf clubs from around the world, PGA professionals and amateur golfers coming together to compete for the inaugural World Club ProAm title.
The tournament is set to become a highlight on the international golfing calendar with a total prize and appearance fee fund of US $350 000 (that includes a minimum US $1000 appearance fee) and a unique format of 90-holes of combined individual stableford championship for the professionals and a ProAm 4-ball alliance for the teams.
