Hitting a six for quadriplegics

The 15th annual Ricky Braham cricket festival.

Competition was fierce on Sunday as an odd assortment of cricketers, ranging from the serious to the very silly, competed for the title at the 15th annual Ricky Braham cricket festival at Umhlali Preparatory School on Sunday.
The much anticipated Ballito Lions event was a festive affair with many teams dressing up to the hilt for the round robin knock-out.
Previous champions Blap and Nkobongo contested hotly for the title but the victory dance was stolen by the cream of the crop, The Cream Cheese (aka Footy).
The event is held in memory of late Ballito resident Ricky Braham, who became a quadriplegic after a violent hijacking. He died before he could get special medical attention in the U.K.
He was an avid cricket fan and the cricket festival was first organised to raise funds for his treatment.
Since his death the proceeds have gone to the Quadriplegic Association in his honour.
The Ballito Lions donated R4 000 to the Quadriplegic Association on Sunday.
Lions PRO Ray Kyte thanked everyone for making the event a success.
