Almost a hundred people came out to enjoy a day of peaceful angling at Rain Farm’s ‘Fish for Hope’ fundraiser.
The event was held to raise funds to help cover medical bills for Jessica Nicholson, a Ballito woman undergoing intensive brain cancer treatment.
“It was such a great success,” said Rain Farm owner Cara Nidd, “It is just amazing to see how people have pulled together to help with this.”
Fish for Hope raised over R27 000 for the Nicholson family from ticket sales, a raffle and an auction. Sponsors and participants were extremely generous and William Davies bid R5 500 on a jumping castle, which he is donating to Grey Town Children’s Home.
Some eager fishermen had their rods in the water by 7am and a hunger buster braai throughout the day kept everybody happily fed. At the end of the day, fishermen were entertained by Durban comedian Jim Atkins whose wicked sense of humour had everybody in stitches.
The winner of the men’s section was Alex Nel, who caught a fish which weighed in at 1.138kg, while Bella won the women’s competition after landing a 0.17kg fish.
The juniors division was won by Brandon with his 0.22kg bass.
