The Manor cricket team beat rivals Morningside in the highly anticipated final match in the Warrior Sport Tournament last Sunday, held at the KwaDukuza Country Club.
Morningside came into the final on a high after edging out a talented Oceanside team the previous day, but could not counter the big hitting of Manor.
After winning the toss, Morningside decided to bowl first which was a good approach as early pressure saw them restricting the Manor team to only three in the first three overs of the 20/20 game. It was then that Alvero Nadesan (ultimately the batsman of the series) broke the shackles and hit a superb 90 runs, helping his side to a daunting total of 170.
Chasing at a run rate of 8.5 per over was always going to be a challenge against the strong bowling attack of the Manor team and Morningside ultimately finished their 20 overs on 124/7, the innings of Nadesan proving the difference between the teams.
Harry Naidoo walked away with the award for most sixes (10), best bowler (9 wickets) and man of the series.
CEO of Warriors Sport, Rajiv Mathapershad thanked everybody for their involvement in the tournament, which is now in its third year.
“It is a privilege to be able to host this tournament at no cost to the teams. Seeing our local cricket heroes in action makes it all worthwhile,” said Mathapershad.
