Local MA club taking on the world

Shakashead Martial Arts Club will compete overseas.

The Shakashead Martial Arts Club will be heading to South Korea on June 6 for the World Championship of World Hapkido martial Art Federation.

Some of the team members will also be competing in Canada in July at the World GTF Taekwando Championship.

“The number of people going to compete will be determined by the sponsors we can get, because we face financial difficulties,” said trainer Lucky Ndlovu.

He said they really need at least 15 of their members to go to the championship.

Last year November the club received a trophy for winning the second most gold medals by a team at the 2014 KZN Open Taekwando Championship held at Tongaat Sport Centre.

Ndlovu thanked all the sponsors who had sponsored them with training equipment.

“The latest sponsor was Max Maidman of Trojan Medical who helped us with a training mat,” said Ndlovu.

The club trains Monday to Friday at Shakashead Community Hall from 3.30 pm to 5.30 pm.
