Gear up for Tongaat Panthers Classic fun run

The main road, Gopalall Hurbans and part of Watson Highway up to the new airport road will be affected from 5am to 10am on Sunday April 17.

It’s all systems go for the Arysta Life Sciences Tongaat Panthers Classic that takes place on Sunday,  April 17 at  5am from the Outspan Grounds.

The organisers have arranged a festival of races of various distances to suit all ages from the very young to the very senior.

The longer distances, the 32km and 21 km start at 5am and are suited for the more serious runner. However, the 10km event, which starts at 6am, is perfect for the novice and social participant. 

For the young and the family orientated there is a 5km fun run/Walk  set for 8am.

There are 10 well stocked refreshment stations to provide water and coke to all participants.

Lajeeth Maharaj, race organiser of the event heaped praise on Arysta Life Sciences for their sponsorship and commended them for partnering with the club in promoting a healthy “Life Style” among the youth and communities.

Cheeten Maharaj, speaking on behalf of the Arysta Life Sciences, said that his club is committed to promoting health living through physical activity and sport.  He said he was particularly impressed by the clubs endeavours in promoting the sport among the youth with the staging of the fun run.

The cost of the fun run is R8 for learners and R10 for adults.  Local schools have been encouraged to use the event as a fund-raiser.

Registration begins at 2.30pm at the Outspan Grounds on Saturday, April 16 and continues on Sunday April 17 at the grounds.

A special plea is being made to all motorists to be patient on the roads from about 5am to 10am as there will be hundreds of runners and walkers.

The main road, Gopalall Hurbans and part of Watson Highway up to the new airport road will be affected from 5am to 10 am.  Motorists are urged to exercise caution.

All participants who complete the 32km, 21km and 10km event will receive quality T-shirts while the fun runners and walkers will receive medals.
