Ashton’s holiday victories
Amy won the event convincingly in a time of 56,4 - running the fastest 400m for Girls U16 in SA this year.
Ashton‘s sportsmen and sportswomen participated at both regional and national levels over the Easter holidays, returning with excellent results.
One of the highlights was the performance of Form one student, 14-year-old Amy Naudé who participated at the Athletics SA Championship, winning the U16 girls 400m title.
Amy won the event convincingly in a time of 56,4 – running the fastest 400m for Girls U16 in SA this year.
The petite runner was also a member of the KZN Swedish relay team, running the 300m leg – the team was a mere second adrift the SA record.
With the swimming season coming to an end at the swimming regional and national events, their swimmers made waves.
Cameron Pennell qualified and was selected to swim in the SA Senior Nationals – the premier category of swimming in SA.
The Form four student, clinched a bronze and silver medal at the Level three Nationals in Port Elizabeth. He then competed at Kings Park in the Senior Nationals, which was also the qualifying gala for the Rio Olympics. In the 200m backstroke, Cameron qualified for the semi-finals which was an amazing feat for this talented swimmer who has a bright future ahead. At SA youth level, Ruan Lotz, Jemma and Megan Tully participated and Jemma (14) bagged a bronze medal in the Women U19 Breaststroke event.
Both Ruan and Megan performed well in their events.
Ashton congratulated all the students who participated at Sports Festivals, Surf Lifesaving Championships and Biathlon Nationals.
