Most of the kids did not have takkies, and came off the court with cooking and probably blistered feet.

When Curro Mt Richmore netball girls recently took part in the Ilembe Netball Trials on a typical scorching hot Durban day, they noticed that their opponents were barefoot.

Most of the kids did not have takkies, and came off the court with cooking and probably blistered feet.

Shocked by this, moms and teachers from Curro Mt Richmore got together to help. Initially the plan was to get gently worn shoes for all 59 netball players. Over time, they gathered so much support from parents as well as Game and Mr Price, offering discounted prices on the takkies, that they could get new shoes for all the girls.

When the special day arrived last week for the handover, the girls were invited to Curro and the takkies were handed over to them by the SA Netball team players.

The many gently worn shoes collected are to be donated to a local charity.
