Nippers dive for glory
Nipper training was reinstated by Dyllan Smith and Natthew Atwell after a break of almost 20 years.
Salt spray, sun and loads of fun marked the first Salt Rock Nippers Championships on Sunday in almost two decades.
Nipper training was reinstated by Dyllan Smith and Matthew Atwell, former nippers on the same beach many years ago.
The life guards in training (aged four to 11) did their absolute best in four events – a long run, a swim, an underwater swim and flags, with separate competitions for seniors and juniors and even a Mini-Nippers flag race for the very little ones.
Salt Rock Nippers has been going on just over a year and organiser, Dyllan Smith said they were so proud of the growth of the children who have gained “so much surf sense in the past year.”
