Ballito Lifesaving Club wins big
Ballito Lifesaving Club excelled at the recent SA Surf Nipper Nationals and SA Stillwater Lifesaving Nationals.
Ballito Lifesaving Club claimed five individual national titles and made 15 individual and 30 team podium appearances at the recent SA Surf Nipper Nationals and SA Stillwater Lifesaving Nationals.
Thanks to the use of Ashton International College’s pool and the sponsored shirts by Eat Local Grill and Restaurant and Zara’s Café, the Ballito team were fit and dressed to the nines at the Nationals.
Matt Opperman was selected to represent the KZN A Team for Surf Nippers and competed at both the Interprovincial and Interclub Surf Nipper Nationals, with KZN Nippers winning the Interprovincial competition. He came first in the Interprovincial Beach Sprint, second in Inter-provincial Beach Flags, first in Inter-club Beach Run and second in Inter-club Beach Sprint at Surf Nipper Nationals.
The results were as follows:
* Lauren Bates: first place in 50m Obstacle, 50m Manikin and 100m Manikin with Fins, set two new SA records and was awarded the National age group Victrix Ludorum for scoring the most points in her age group.
* Nicola Herbst: third in 50m Obstacle at Stillwater Nationals
* Kristian Muller: second in 100m Obstacle, third in 50m Manikin.
* Zoë Frank: third in 100m Combined, third in 50m Manikin.
* Trent Strydom: third in 200m Obstacle.
* Milla Herbst: second in 100m Manikin Tow & Tube.
* Matt du Rand: third in Iron Man.
Morgan, Zoë, Chanel and Reece were also selected to represent KZN Nippers while Trent, Matt, Jason, Dylan, Kayler, Milla and Tim were selected to represent KZN Juniors. Team Ballito placed sixth in the Interclub Nipper Competition, while KZN Nippers and KZN Juniors/Seniors won the respective Interprovincial titles.
