After getting the taste of premier league rugby, Cameron “Camo” Hamman is hungry to bring success to Dolphins Rugby Club in 2017.
The 22-year-old loose forward’s first year with the Dolphins was in 2015, the same year he was selected as a member of the Durban Rugby Sub Union starting XV before joining Durban Collegians 2nd XV in 2016, where he racked up nine tries over the season.
Born in Kingsway hospital south of Durban, Hamman lived in Johannesburg and Nelspruit before returning to the coast seven years ago.
In his schooling years at Ashton, Hamman played fly half, lock and flank and currently moves between flank and eighth man on the Dolphins team, though he said he is going after the centre position this year. Hamman has always been a sporting man, playing first team cricket, rugby and soccer while at Ashton and being named both the Sportsman of the Year and receiving the Shannon Proctor trophy for sporting commitment.

“I was at the Sharks Academy for the 2016 year and was included in the Sharks U21 trials squad,” said Hamman, who is the manager of the Cell C Branch at Tiffany’s. Asked who his all time favourite rugby player was, Hamman said it would have to be New Zealand captain, Kieran Reid.
“Every break down he is the first there and nine times out of 10 he makes the steal.”
Looking forward to the season ahead, Hamman said he expects the matches against Hillcrest and Westville to be particularly tough.
“There is nothing better than putting in that huge hit or that huge bounce and hearing the crowd cheer. When I’m on that field all my worries go away, because for those 80 minutes, all the blood sweat and tears, I leave everything out there.”
