Swimmers raise the bar
The money raised by the foundation will go a long way in supporting the KZN North Coast programmes
Nine swimmers from Ballito joined the 25-strong team representing the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation SA at this year’s Midmar Mile and together they raised over R250 000!
The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation (PCMF) South Africa is a proud beneficiary of the aQuelle Midmar Mile 8 Mile Club and holds as its mission the reduction of global drowning numbers and teaching young people about water safety.
Terence Parkin, a nine time Olympic medallist and North Coast Dolphins Swim Club Coach/ Foundation’s ambassador won the category for deaf swimmers, while Dominique Donner Rodd, the national project manager for the PCMF won the 40 plus category.
Other locals who swam and raised money for the PCMF included: Viki van den Barselaar, Bianca de Sousa, Cameron Pennell, Zoe Frank, Keren Wessels, Dina Crichton and Karley Lotz.
“The money raised by the foundation will go a long way in supporting the KZN North Coast programmes,” said Donner Rodd. The PCMF is currently teaching the life skill of swimming to children of Shakashead and Shakaskraal, LIV Village and Imbalito Hope College in Tongaat.
Several learn to swim programs are also running in Pietermaritzburg as well as the Western Cape.
