Meet the Dolphins’ power centre

2017 will be Fivas’ second year with the Ballito Dolphins, afer having played for the College Rovers before joining the boys in blue

The North Coast Courier has been getting to know some of the Dolphins rugby players before the season gets underway and this week it’s time to meet their power-centre, Anthony Fivas.

2017 will be Fivas’ second year with the Ballito Dolphins, afer having played for the College Rovers before joining the boys in blue.

Fivas grew up in Ballito and works as a technical clerk for Vusela Risk Services.

He has always played centre – aside from a short stint as a wing in his time at Port Natal high school.

In his school days Fivas was selected as part of the SA Bokkies team to tour Argentina and was later awarded a bursary to play for the Sharks U19 and then U21 sides.

Earlier this year he also took part in the Zando Cape Towns Tens and was named the Most Valuable player of the tournament.

“My most memorable moment on the field would have to have been during the match against Harlequins last year,” Fivas recalled.

“I tackled man and ball, picked the other player up and ran with him in my arms – and the ball – to go score a try. “Even my coach said that in all his years of rugby he had never seen the like.”

Fivas said that his favourite player is Ma’a Nonu, New Zealand’s unstoppable centre and that – given the current state of the Springboks – his dream team to play for would be the All Blacks.

Fivas said that he enjoys everything about rugby – but that few things can compare with the feeling of waking up and knowing it’s game day.

“Nobody who does not play rugby can understand the excitement of knowing that a big game is coming up.
