KwaDukuza FC jacked-up for Ajax match

The municipality is giving away 150 tickets to the much anticipated game

The KwaDukuza United FC say they are ready to face Ajax Capetown in the Nedbank Cup top 32 round at Sugar Ray Xulu stadium in Durban on Saturday.

KwaDukuza United Football Club is currently competing in the ABC Motsepe League, which is the 3rd division of the country’s professional football league.

The team is currently ranked in 8th position in the league.

It is the first local club to reach the top 32 of Nedbank Cup (FA Cup of South Africa).

Speaking at a press conference at Chief Albert Luthuli museum yesterday, technical team member Maxwell Gwegwe he believes the players are in top form for Saturday’s game.

“We have a good coach, Thami Ngubane, who previously coached in the big league and we believe the boys have got what it takes to do well,” said Gwegwe.

Ngubane is a former Thanda Royal Zulu coach, whose team played against the Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates.

Captain of the team Khayalethu Mjali from Groutville said they are not scared of AJax.

“We know it a big game, however we are not under pressure and we will take it on as a normal game.

“We also know that it will be a slightly different ball game for us, but we have players who had played in the big league. So they experience that will help a lot,” said Mjoli.

He said the importance of the twelfth player (the fans) can never be over emphisised.

“Having soccer fans from KZN and KwaDukuza on the stands will play a big role in terms of boosting their confidence,” he said.

KDM mayor Ricardo Mthembu said they are proud to partner with KwaDukuza United in their forthcoming game with Absa premiership big boys Ajax.

“This is an important match as we stand to represent KZN.

“We are calling on all the people of the province to come down in their numbers to support their home team as it takes on Ajax,” said Mthembu.

Despite that is a home game for KwaDukuza United, due to lack of a PSL approved facility within the district, the game must be played in Durban.

“This was an eye-opening thing for us, therefore we are working on having a stadium in KwaDukuza,” said Mthembu.
