Fishy fun at Dudley Pringle dam

The event raised around R35,000 that will all go towards helping orphaned and vulnerable children through the North Coast Courier Orphan Fund

Anglers young and old from across the Dolphin Coast got an early start to the day on Saturday at Dudley Pringle Dam.

The Seeff / North Coast Courier Orphan Fund Fishing Fun Day was a rousing success, with more than 150 eager fishermen-and-women reeling in the bites and snapping selfies all the while hoping to hook the infamously elusive tagged bass, worth R5000.

The event raised around R35,000 that will all go towards helping orphaned and vulnerable children through the North Coast Courier Orphan Fund.

No fish were weighed or measured – instead a selfie competition was held where anglers struck a pose with their catch and uploaded it onto The Courier’s Facebook page.

Together with heaps of lucky draw prizes, the best selfies were announced by the end of a day that saw plenty of large bass, talapia and barbel being pulled out for a moment in the sun before being returned to the murky depths.

Freddy Landman, Dylan Westoby and Craig Liddle were eventually crowned winners of the selfie competition, each taking home a rod and reel combo valued at R900 sponsored by Hook, Line and Sinker.

Jason Pretorius won the raffle prize of a weekend away on the South Coast at a luxury self-catering holiday house and dozens of others won lucky draw prizes.

More than R30 000 in prizes were dished out on Saturday and each angler received a small tackle box with hooks and some artificial lures sponsored by Tongaat Hullet and Hook Line and Sinker.

It was the beautiful conditions and outstanding atmosphere however that everyone will be talking about for a long time to come.

Mark Johnson from Seeff Ballito said that the company has always put family at centre of its business philosophy and the bass fishing competition is typically the kind of event they love getting involved in.

“Making it even more special is the fact that it is aligned to our business CSI strategy in that the funds raised directly benefit the Orphan Fund which we have a very close affiliation with.

“We appreciate the support from the community and the hard work that The Courier team put into making this such a great outing to be enjoyed by young and old as I did with my grandchildren and the Seeff team”, said Johnson.

Stay tuned to the North Coast Courier for the next fishing competition to be held on September 24.
