Meet Dolphin dynamo Sean Steyn

When he is not opening opponents' backlines like tin cans, Steyn works as a personal trainer.

With the 2017 rugby season well underway, it is time to get to know the Great Railroad Brewing Company Dolphins‘ bearded beast of a vice captain.

Sean Steyn (32) originally hails from Benoni but has been back in Ballito for about six and a half years.

Measuring in at 1.78m and tipping the scales at 95kg, Steyn is a wrecking ball at centre for the Dolphins.

When he is not opening opponents’ backlines like tin cans, Steyn works as a personal trainer.

“This is my second year playing for the Dolphins again,” said Steyn, who was a member of the Sharks rugby academy for three years

“I also played junior rugby for Natal and senior Currie Cup rugby for the Griffons.”

Steyn said his toughest opposition was against the Griquas in Kimberley, “it was always super hot and very physical.”

He told The Courier that New Zealand’s Ma’a Nonu was his favourite international player and that his dream team to play for would be the Wellington Hurricanes for their exciting brand of rugby.

Steyn said he loves rugby for its physicality and brotherhood, and he also said that he does suffer from the one superstition.

“I always warm up with my shoulder pads underneath my warm up shirt.”
