Ballito’s Reghard is the king of the hill
More than 15 000 spectators arrived to watch elite local and international race drivers conquer the most-contested hill road in South Africa
Reghard Roets won the King of the Hill in the recent Simola Hillclimb in Knysna – a major South African motorsport event.
The eighth edition of the award-winning Jaguar Simola Hillclimb cemented the event as South Africa’s premier motorsports gathering.
More than 15 000 spectators arrived to watch elite local and international race drivers conquer the most-contested hill road in South Africa.
“It was an amazing day,” said Roets, who won the road-going supercar category with his Nissan GTR R35.
“This is the third time we entered, the last two times we ran into technical difficulties but this time we went all the way.”
Roets told The Courier that while he was ecstatic with the win, it did not come as a shock. “We went there with the best possible team and the best possible vehicle. We went there to win it.”
Sponsored by Melrose Nissan and NXGEN, Roets and his team won the 1,8km Hillclimb with a time of 44,7 seconds. “It is a very steep piece of road with sharp turns, but it was great fun.”
Roets raced against the clock to beat some of the best riders in the world. Fortunately, the Ballito local is a 20 year veteran of motor sports himself and held on for the win.
