Dolphins kick it into high gear

The Dolphins will be taking on Hillcrest away today

The Great Railroad Brewing Company Dolphins’ Rugby Club scored two victories against the Harlequins over the weekend.

The second team produced some excellent running rugby to seal the win 34-12 while the first team dominated the first half of their game, standing at 17-0 when the half time whistle blew.

The Harlequins came back fighting in the second half though and in just seven mad minutes ran in three tries to level the scores.

The Dolphins were not about to give up, and kept their composure to end the game 27-17 with a bonus point in the bag.

The Dolphins have just four games left this season, playing away games against the Hillcrest Villagers on June 10 and Queensburgh on June 17, before tackling the Westville Old Boys on June 24 and the PMB Collegians on July 8 at home.

But for now it is time to get to know another of the Dolphins a little better.

Justin “Jip” Christoforos plays centre for the boys in blue. Having lived in Durban all his life, Christoforos moved to Ballito in November last year.

“I work at IMF high performance centre as a part-time personal trainer and also own a sports events company. I am currently working on an adventure obstacle race course called the Zulu Ninja Race, which will be taking place at Sugar Rush Park on July 16.”

He has only been with the Dolphins for a month or so, having played for Collegians in Durban before that as well as a club in America called the Glendale Raptors.

He went to Durban High School and also spent some time with the Sharks rugby academy.

“I have played for both the Sharks U21 side and the Sharks sevens rugby side and also made the South African men’s touch rugby team,” Christoforos said.

His favourite player is the legendary James Small and having been a Sharks supporter all his life,
they are his dream team.

“What I love about rugby is working together with my team mates and the atmosphere the game creates.”

The Dolphins will be taking on Hillcrest away today, with the 2nd team kicking off at 1.30pm and the 1st team at 3pm.
