Ballito ninjas punch through obstacle course

The Zulu Ninja Race was a fun family event which caters for all and was designed to be enjoyed by the toughest competitors and the novice weekend warrior alike

The Dolphin Coast’s ninja impis came out on Sunday to test their mettle on the Holla Trails at Sugar Rush Park.

The Zulu Ninja Race was a fun family event which caters for all and was designed to be enjoyed by the toughest competitors and the novice weekend warrior alike.

Participants had the option of taking on a 5km run and obstacle course, a 20km bike ride, 5km run and an obstacle course or a team relay where team members each did one of the courses.

In the first category Hlelani Radebe and Catherine Robson were crowned winners while the longer second category was won by Williom Zikholi and Danielle Robert. Meanwhile Kyle Spires and Tracy Erikson were the winners of the full event and the team race was taken by Seeff Ballito.

Course designers Dwain Swiegers, Justin Christoforus and Tim Lyle thoroughly enjoyed seeing the participants giving it their all.

“Our event is an obstacle course race but we have designed it very differently to others, having the option to include a bike route and a team event,” said Swiegers.

“The main difference and what makes us so unique is that you can see 90% of all the obstacles from the spectators’ stand, which makes the Zulu Ninja race probably the most spectator friendly out there.”

“Our aim for our next event in early December is to have between 1000-2000 participants and we really want the Ballito community to get involved with us.”

Almost there! Sunday’s Zulu Ninja Warrior race challenged even the fittest.
