Meet Ballito’s Dolphins’ running centre

Campher told The Courier he was comfortable at both inside and outside centre and has also played flyhalf full-back before

Hailing from Richard’s Bay and new to Ballito, Victor Campher is the Dolphin’s running centre.

Campher told The Courier he was comfortable at both inside and outside centre and has also played flyhalf full-back before.

Having been in Ballito for only the last three months, he joined The Great Railroad Brewing Company Dolphins at the start of round two this year.

Campher, who played for the Natal Rural side for two years and in the Natal Country Districts, said one of his most memorable games came while he was in the Rural team.

“It was my first Rural game and we were up against the Griquas in Nelspruit. I was nervous at first but ended up having an amazing game where I scored two tries.”

Campher said he was fortunate not to have had any serious injuries in his time as a rugby player, though that may very well change when his teammates find out he is a Blue Bulls supporter.

His favourite player is former Irish international centre Brian O’Driscoll who he hails as one of the best defenders and attackers in the world, and when it comes to these two aspects of the game – Campher is in his element.

“I love defending and crashing lines, that and the discipline that comes with playing the game.

“I do not have any pre-game rituals, but it really boosts me when my six-year-old son leads me onto the field.”
