ISA surfers carve it up in East London
The surfers took part in the 2017 Mercedes Benz South African Surfing Championships
The Ilembe Surfing Association – still less than a year old – sent their first open and masters teams down to Nahoon Reef in East London recently.
The surfers took part in the 2017 Mercedes Benz South African Surfing Championships, where big surf and incessant winds made for tricky conditions and fierce competition.
Ilembe’s top four surfers included Justin Sykes, who made the quarter finals in the open category and finished 7th overall, Sean von Oettingen who finished 9th in the over 35 category, Dave Pieterson who bagged 7th place in the over over 40 category and Camilla Rogers – who did well just to paddle out there in the huge surf after pulling a groin muscle – who came 17th in the open women’s category.

“I am really proud of the team for their performance and I know that we will go from strength to strength as the Ilembe Surfing Association grows,” said Ilembe Surfing chairman Darren Sykes.
